THE INNAUGURAL IDO DINNER |
| |
The first ever IDO dinner was held
in Delhi on 30th of January, 2000. It was a absolute fun affair and
special thanks to the great hearted Sushant Umre
who organized the hotel and the food and the
music etc. etc. It was attended by 45 plus
IDO'ers and everyone had a riprorious time. The
first time meeting of so many colleagues was
indeed a very great feeling. Rajan Bir
Singh Thind went
trigger happy with his camera and has scanned the
photographs which everyone can see on this page.
It is best to describe the events in the words of
the IDO'ers themselves. Here are a few excerpts
from postings about the dinner. |

Ha...feels real good to be
posting on ido again and to be the first one to
do it right in the morning after the wonderful
dinner we had last night. That was really
great..to finally see the faces behind all the
typing we receive. So now we know that the
letters have people attached to them and its
easier to relate to each other. Actually I was
amazed that none of us had to kinda start afresh
on relating to each other..it was like we had met
each other before and were doing so again and
starting from where we had left off. Sp wonderful
to meet Mohan/Sarika/Shail/Thindji and of course
everyone else as well...Amish I wanted to talk to
you but you ledft before I could..anyway I loved
the night and I am looking forward to seeing you
all sometime when I drop into respective cities.. |

I have just landed home after the
wonderful Delhi sojourn - the most memorable part
of which was undoubtedly yesterday's IDO dinner
and it was lovely to attach faces to various
names.I am sure that those IDOers who could not
be there cannot really understand the camaraderie
and oneness felt by us but am certain that they
will be making an all-out effort to be there at
the next gathering whenever it is.The sherni was
tamed, the loin was bearded and Thindji gave
everyone a bear-hug.Each & every member
present was introduced briefly and had the
opportunity to speak about themselves and their
spouses (When present). The big-boss of Tracom
Infomex - the people who made this list possible
- P.K.Agarwal was present. Even folk -dancers
from Rajasthan were thrown in. Kavita Ajmera was
the life of the party - she pataoed all the
waiters, helpers, and even the owner to give us
their best service, along with the Loin - who
gave us his extremely funny and excellently
acted-out apples-and-pears skit (Remember it-
Loy?) and Glenn who led everyone into the birdie
dance. We even had a harmonium being played live
as IDOers guzzled gallons of spirits arranged by
Mohan (V.S.). There were oratorial masterpieces
from Glenn Mascarenhas, Ramesh Shanker, Nitish
S., Kumaraswamy, Shail and even Rajanbir Singh
Thind. Our eternal thanks are due to our very own
Dr.Sushant Umre and his lovely wife Radha( from
Delhi ) who took the entire IDO group to his
sister's farmhouse in Mehrauli for a great feast
on Sunday (As he had promised Thind on the IDO),
and arranged the IDO dinner at the Chopsticks
Restaurant yesterday.More will follow....it is
already past 1am now. |

Then came the IDO dinner where we
finally met at a great restaurant,
"chopsticks". I had already met both
the "very siddha and vakade" Mohan and
sarika earlier in the trade fair, but I guess I
got about talking to them only during the IDO
dinner. It was phenomenal when we all were being
introduced and when all of us had to say a few
words. Right from Kavita's shy talk to Glenn's
speech to Ajay's talk, all the moments were real
treasurable moments. It was a real emotional
scene, and I guess all of us who were there will
cherish those moments for a life time to come.
All those who have missed this IDO dinner, esp
those, who despite being in Delhi did not make
it, have really missed one hellava great evening.
The two main people who were missed the most at
the IDO dinner were Deepak and Loy. As others, I
too really wished that they wud have been also
present at the dinner. Then ofcourse we all
finally did meet the "Occlusion king"
Sanjay Arora and his lovely wife. I must say he
did come across as a real reserved person, but
nevertheless, it was great to see who he was.
Overall the Dinner was a great success. |
| |
Not to forget the IDO
batches really stood out on all those who wore
them. I was stopped by quite a few people in
conference to ask what that batch stood for. And
I felt really proud to be a part of such a
wonderful family. On the way back, I'm sure all
of us who met each other, despite our diverse
cultural background, felt great to part of such a
big "Indian dentistry online" family. I
thank Ajay, Rajiv, Deepak for master minding this
entire show till date and at the rate at which it
is growing, I'm sure its already heading the
numero uno spot. Way to Go IDO, and keep the
great work going. |

I have been well and truly beaten in
the race for the first post on the IDO dinner.
Nitish is the winner hands down, with Rajiv
running him a close second and Thind making up
the third on the podium stand. The IDO gold,
silver and bronze cyber medals are hereby awarded
to them. |
| |
The IDO dinner as can be
well judged from the posts uptill now has been
one helluva success. The excitement generated by
the IDO for this conference was so tremendous
that it could only be experienced and not
described. On the first two days of the
conference all that I was doing was meeting new
IDOers and introducting the IDO members for whom
I was a common link. By the second day a group of
us were literally stopping every man in a turban
and asking if he was Thind. And what a great
feeling it was when I did meet him. We met as if
we were the archetypical long lost brothers of a
Manmohan Desai film who were seperated in the
Kumbh ka mela. |
| |
The dinner itself took off
so smoothly and perfectly that it could not be
better in any respect. It was full of fun, frolic
and camadiere as well as a lot of expression of
mature thought. In essence the dinner reflected
the personal philosphy I believe in, of the fact
that the universe we live in is a benevolent
place and our journey of life on this earth is
meant to be joyous. |
| |
I am sure that the actual
concrete details of the happenings of the evening
will flow from all of the approximately 35 plus
IDO'ers present. |
| |
I am now sure that the IDO
can only move in one direction, which is, the
road to success, glory and joy. |
| |
Mohan Vakade says..... |
| |
Sorry I missed few things
in a hurry! |
| |
One person who fit to his
slogan ' You never get second chance to get first
Impression' was Hiren; unlike a mischievious
character I expected; he enters late for the
dinner with his sweet cherry! Real 'Chikna' of
IDO who bowled over Thind. |
| |
Credit for the smooth
flowing 'light' evening goes to "Very Siddha
(VS) Mohan" who kept the 'spirits' high. |
| |
Came to know about the
'suthradhar KumarSwami', the man who gives shapes
to ideas Ajay conceive. |
| |
I am awaiting to meet many
other new faces in the next meet. Ajay announce
it a little earlier so someone from east (LOY)
& from west( A M Gowda) can plan their visit
to add international flavour to the event. |
| |
And to end AJAY
"Behind every successful man stands a Mona
dal..". Credit to her as she gives U enough
time to venture into new ideas. |
